I don't usually like horror type stories, but this one grabbed my attention so I gave it a fair shot. The way this book started out felt very similar to Predator and I liked that. Each of the people on the team had their own quirks, feelings, etc. I also liked how the creatures involved seemed somewhat plausible. I liked how the special operations team valued each of its members. Even though they kept giving the odd-man out gruff for screwing up all the time, they'd still die for him if need be. Which reminds me. There is plenty of blood and gore and plenty of language (did I mention there was a spec. ops. team?) in this book. It all seemed to fit together, though. Things didn't seem out of place, a military crew is probably going to swear a lot.
I feel that I need to point something out, though. There are plenty of people that might be offended by the way men and women interact in the story. I only mention it because in today's world these things are more offensive for some people than they used to be. In some ways the book portrays a dichotomy between language and actions that seems so prevalent in the military. Telling your brother (or sister) in arms to go screw themselves is about showing a rough exterior. They don't actually mean the "hurtful" things they say; as their actions show later in the book.
Anyway, enough ramblings of an old man.
